Correct me if I'm wrong, but if they picked him up on waivers, he would just have to be put right back on waivers to send him to the minors (assuming that's where he goes.)

By waiting until he clears, now they get him and can assign him without issues

Dude, I'm losing track of all the rules around waivers. Why would that matter? I thought it's only after the trade deadline that you can't play a claimed player in the nhl.

He's going to play in the NHL for now. If they decide to send him down he would have to clear waivers again

Once he clears once I don't think it matters. I know Philly just sent Boucher back to the AHL the other day without having to send him through waivers again.
Nonetheless he was acquired to replace Dziurzynski.

If he plays more than 10 games or has been called up to nhl for 30 days he needs to clear waivers again. They probably sent boosh down just before the month was up.
