Spezza had vetoed a trade, don't forget that

Yeah he had a 10 team list that he could be traded to and the Sens tried to trade him to Nashville for a package including Patric Hornqvist but Spezza vetoed.

Still, I have to think we could have got something better than Chiasson, a 2nd round pick + 2 prospects drafted in the 3rd and 4th round. Althought Chiasson was just coming off a 35 points rookie season which is not too bad.

That trade was truly awful.

Bishop one was almost as bad.

Stahp.

Still think Bishop is pretty overrated. Anderson >

Spezza requests trade, and vetoes first trade, Ottawa was fucked no matter what

A few days before the Nucks got Bonino, Sbisa and a 1st for Ryan Kesler who was pretty much only accepting a trade to Anaheim iirc.

I remember thinking to myself damn if Kesler gets that I'm excited to see what Spezza can return

Still can't believe he was the main piece coming back in the Spezza trade :(

He had shown some promise tbh, but obviously in hindsight they got fleeced on that deal.

Yeah 35 points as a rookie isn't so bad.

Right now our only hope is that Nick Paul can turn into a good 3rd line center and that Gabriel Gagne ( who we used Dallas 2nd round pick to trade up to trade ) can amount to anything.. But yeah, right now it does not look good

Murray made the same mistake with both trades. Both Conacher and Chiasson had hot streaks that were unsustainable and Ottawa bit hard.

And still most Canucks fans feel like we didn't get enough lol.

That trade looks even worse for us now:

- That 1st (McCann) traded away in a shitty trade
- Bonino traded away in a shitty trade
- Sbisa, one of the worst players in the league, still unfortunately here and somehow managed to get a new bloated contract

Yeah but that's Benning's fault  A mid first + Bonino is a much better return than what the Sens got ^_^

@FriedgeHNIC says David Backes will likely command over $6M per year on open market

Yikes

Very good 2nd liner but he's 32 and doesn't exactly play a soft game. I'd be wary of giving him more than 3 years at a number like that.

I believe he did say he would prefer to re-sign in STL.

Yeah I think at that time it was Theodore + 1st + roster player.

Anaheim was giving more because they would have had Kesler for an additional playoff run had he gone there at the deadline.

Our owners don't really spare any expenses when it comes to providing the team with whatever they need to succeed but their constant meddling in a futile attempt to "win now" is going to cripple our future.
