- Isles (like a lot of teams) will be going hard after Stamkos. Apparently Stamkos and Tavares are close friends.

- Habs favorite to sign 29 year-old KHL free-agent forward Vadim Shipachev who is currently having a very strong WHC.

They were teammates growing up

Who would go to wing though

id assume stammer

and thats assuming they play on the same line, spliting them up would probably work better

This. Stamkos for sure, since he has already played a lot of wing and a lot of people see him as more of a winger anyway.

Rumor is that Stamkos is not a fan of playing the wing but he probably wouldn't mind if it meant flanking Tavares.

Stamkos hasn't resigned with Tampa because Cooper keeps putting him at wing when he wants to be center

That was the story last season. He's 3rd in faceoffs behind Johnson and Filppula and has barely played on a line with either of them all season. He hasn't signed because Tampa wants to get his number as low as possible due to the cap hell they'll be in over the next few seasons.

Also who says he goes to JT's wing? Isles could easily pull a Pittsburgh and have them on 1a/1b lines so that the opposing team has to pick their poison as to who they match shutdown lines against. Nielsen and Bailey are okay but neither is really a clear cut 2C.

Only thing about signing stammer is, whatever they give him they might as well multiply that by 2 because he'll be the measuring stick for JT's next contract.

Nielsen is a 50 point player over his last 6~ seasons and is good defensively. He's can be or is a solid, versatile 2C.

4 years ago, sure. But in today's nhl you need to have at least two deadly lines to split the shutdown guys on the opposition. Nielsen doesn't make that line deadly. Hes more akin to a bonino. The alternative would be to give him a solid goal scoring winger, there aren't exactly many available right now.

Also keep in mind Nielsen is turning 33. He isn't a long term solution.

Datsyuk reportedly has agreed to a 2-year deal to play with SKA St Petersburg. Nothing out of the Wings camp yet, the report came from a Russian source and Datsyuk was planning to meet with Holland after the World Championship before he makes a final decision.

Friedman saying it wouldn't be a surprise if Nash is traded.

Going to be tough for NYR to get proper value. 7.8M cap for 2 more years and his salary is even higher than his cap. Also didn't have a very good season this year.
