Rumblings of a shakeup within the organization, all the radio guys are talking about it.

It may depend on how this series vs the Flames goes.

There's been a lot of excuses regarding the schedule so far. Now we're on a home stand with the games not squished too closely together, so we'll see.

We've been better the last two games but being better than what we were isn't saying much.

I dunno if aquaman will fire Benning. It doesn't make sense to me. The first reason obviously because of covid, and owners are bleeding money to resume the NHL season. Will he really be interested in paying 2 salaries at this time? Another reason is aquaman finally got his "yes man" GM. Linden didn't agree with aquaman, so he left the org. Linden had Benning's back, but Benning didn't have lindens back and sided with aquaman. In fact, the Canucks are in this mess because of aquaman. He didn't hire Benning for a full rebuild, he hired him for a retool when it was clear they needed to rebuild. When he finally accepted that we needed to rebuild, the damage was already done. After drafting Petey, aquaman wanted to rush things, while linden did not. Benning ultimately listened to aquaman, signed Roussel, beagle, Ferland etc. They pretty much went for it last season, setting the bar high by going to game 7 against Vegas. It's funny because the actions aren't consistent and it makes it look like the org has no direction. (like if Benning knew he had no intention to sign tanev, markstrom, the older core guys that will become another anchor contracts when team is ready to compete, why did he go out to trade for a rental, like toffoli? Why didn't he trade markstrom? I know he tried with tanev, but didn't get much interest from other teams)

I also don't think a new GM will change anything as long as aquaman meddles. Who will aquaman hire? What can the new GM do differently? I honestly think the new GM might mess with things, rather than help the team at this point. All the anchor contracts are worthless for trades, they'll expire soon anyway, if he can get picks I'll be impressed. Will the new gm be able to sign both Petey and Hughes to good deals without fucking up in limited time? If a new GM can stand his ground and tell aquaman to stfu and let him do his job, then I'll be more inclined to trust him. I just don't see anyone that has the balls to do that, and wanna start as a yes man to build good relationship with aquaman being a recent hire. Which will be back to square one Benning 2.0 lol. I'll be pissed if we fuck up our genuine window after next season.

Just had a nightmare, aquaman fires Benning and who else better to hire than Peter chirelli? He then trades Hughes and Petey for gudbranson and Stephan. The circle is complete

fuck yeah, aqua not being a dumbass. He knows better than anyone it's partly his fault, and changing GMs won't change shit lmao. I figured the rumors made no sense and it's the typical van media/knee jerk fans. Gotta be patient for 1 more season after this one.

if anything Aquaman saying all this publicly means there's probably a knife out of sight. the team had already been rebuilding for several years, saw a step forward last season, then proceeded to lose several core pieces for nothing with another cap crunch coming. the team is positioned for Wild/Sabres-like mediocrity and he knows Canucks fans won't show up to watch a disappointing product.

but I'd rather him not hint that changes may be coming without actually doing anything. because that sure as fuck would trigger Benning to pull a final dumbass move. much better to clean house without announcing it loudly beforehand.

i wouldnt mind him cleaning the house if he actually gets a competent GM to replace him with, or someone that knows how to take full advantage of good core setup like Gillis did.

If he gets rid of Benning and promotes Weisbrod we are fucked. If Aqua gets PC just cuz there's no one else and for the sake of pleasing knee jerking fans and media, we are fucked.

Doing nothing for this season is the correct move, unless Sakic/Futa/Stevie ragequits and wants a new team but even they won't be able to turn the current season around.

I disagree with the team being set up like Wild/Sabres, the core will be locked up and all the shitty contracts will be expired. Shit ton of cap space for complimentary players, rentals, etc. to genuinely compete for the cup, instead of half assed run like last season. As much as the run was impressive, the team is no where near the same tier as the avs/tampa cuz of dead contracts. Avs were in similar situation, they had great core setup, had to wait out the shit contracts, and compete genuinely while adding a top pick, and got a makar out of it. Ofc it's juts canuck luck the draft this season is shit and even a lottery win won't account to makar at 4th oa pick.

Sabres are fucked because they signed skinner &okposo, to a shitty contracts which makes eriksson's look like a steal  They created a losing culture, copied the oilers model by tanking hard, the difference is that they didn't win the lottery as much, but still came out with fricken eichel/dahlin. No excuse how shitty their team is with players like eichel/dahlin/reinhart/cozens/risto/olofsson/hall etc.

Wild are mediocore 4 lyfe cuz they didn't wanna rebuild and just continue to retool over and over again for parise/suter.

we know Hughes/Petey will get fat paydays, and Miller/Horvat will get raises (also at same time Hoglander's ELC is up). we'll have 1 season between most of the bad deals expiring and losing the good ones. and the Myers contract will be an anchor regardless. gonna need a lot of depth come from drafting or good trading.

and yeah, Aquaman has to clean house not just Benning. this is Weisbrod's wiki right now LOL

"John Weisbrod (born October 8, 1968) is an American former professional ice hockey player, who currently serves as assistant general manager for the Vancouver Canucks. He is known for his love of all things Dwight Howard and Loui Ericsson. His favourite hobby is giving NMCs to veteran free agents with his friend Jim.[1]"

What a great team win!

Glad to see the team rewarded after coming up losers the last couple of games when they probably should have won.

they've been playing well ever since getting a lot of rest and full day of practice, they're lookin like a team finally.

They shoulda won last game, but marky stole a game as always with 2 unlucky goals demko allowed with it redirecting off two players twice lol.

im hoping they get locked up long term right away, but i think they'll want bridge deals considering it's covid and both are unusually struggling.
barzal got 7x3, so petey should get slightly less or same on a bridge. Otherwise probably 8.5+ if 6+ years.
If miller continues to be a turnover machine and not like he was, probably better off trading him away rather than re-signing him.
Most teams have 2-3 anchor contracts anyway, by 22-23 season only myers will be assuming Benning doesn't go through another FA spree, but people seem very focused on his overpayment than what he actually does for the team. He played great tonight. He eats a lot of minutes and will need to keep it up, especially seeing how Edler is close to retiring and there's no one else that looks ready to take over for him. I'd take myers 11/10 than rotating through MDZ/Sibsa players on shorter term/contracts

Myers sounds like an acceptable boondoggle except when you remember he takes up as much room as Tanev + Stetcher. doesn't this look better?

Hughes-Tanev
Edler-Schmidt
Benn/Juolevi-Stecher
Juolevi/Benn

But maybe next season's capcrunch means we keep Edler for pisslow because he wants to retire a Canuck. Who knows.

Lol but they signed during covid pandemic, whereas myers was brought in through fa because lolnux desperately needed a RHD all before the flatcap. Tanev will also be an anchor contract and is more injure prone because of the way he plays. Stecher is great as 3rd pairing and for that cost for sure, but I'm not losing sleep over him as he showed in playoffs his small stature holds him back even if he's giving it all with 200%. effort. Missing myers briefly in the run was far more noticeable, than stecher playing top 4 minutes and being exposed. They're gone now, myers and juolevi pairing actually looks legit so far, at least for this lolflames series. They seem to make each other look better which is nice.

Hughes was actually struggling the same way toward end of last season with tanev, and sadly it's continuing with his absence. Canucks would for sure be better with him in lineup, as he makes great d plays and blocks a lot but his analytics was worse than Benn playing with Hughes right now lol. Benn is obivously not same tier as tanev, and he's pretty much a bottom replacement dman forced to play top pairing with Hughes. So tanev should be miles ahead better than Benn with Hughes, but that wasn't the case, so even with slight discount @4mil moving on from him is the right move.

Made sense for flames to go for Marky and tanev cuz they're win now mode, whereas canucks aren't. Somehow their team is getting heavily outplayed by Lolnucks, when they established they're Sens 2.0 feeders. Flames giving hope haha
