OTTAWA - Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today the club has acquired forward Matt Kassian from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for the team’s sixth-round draft pick in 2014.

Kassian, 26, participated in the Wild’s 2012-13 training camp before being assigned to the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Houston Aeros, on Feb. 12. In nine games with the Aeros this season, Kassian has recorded one goal and 12 penalty minutes. He did not see any playing time with Minnesota.

He was on waivers not too long ago, I guess they didn't want him for free

Why would you give up a pick for a guy who was on waivers. You didn't even free up a contract spot so there was literally no reason not to claim him.
