I gotta disagree, the vets are huge to this young team. Not comparable with the vets Oilers had.

Right now, the vets are carrying this team and doing their part. It's the players that we expected to improve aren't improving, rather regressed and just not their usual self.

Beagle has been phenomenal since day 1 of his contract, no doubt he's an overpaid 4c, but he has been playing like 3C since our depth doesn't have a good 3C to replace him. He was not brought into score 30pts, people need to understand this.
He is there to take the hard minutes whenever Horvat is resting, win faceoffs, PK, and he clicks well with Motte. He isn't going to outplay MacKinnon or McDavid, but he will tire them out after winning the faceoffs, even if they're being hemmed in their own zone. Opposed to Gaudette straight up losing the draw, and they are setting up to score against with full of stamina.

Sutter has been put back into 3C since Gaudette isn't ready to play in the NHL level with his 2 way game. The bottom 6 looked a lot more stable since, and surprisingly the bottom 6 are doing well opposed to the last seasons.

Edler & Schmidt is putting up great defensive stats despite how much of a shitshow our defense is. Myers is looking great point wise as people wanted, but his defensive stats are atrocious. Benn stablized the backend more, when Green gave into letting him play his off hand side.

Losing vets like tanev/marky are already huge part of calgary, hanafin putting up elite defensive numbers with tanev. Marky being god etc.

Right now, it's the young guys that are struggling the most. Imagine if the team didn't have these vets holding down the fort, instead MORE young guys like Gaudette, Virtanen, Juolevi, MacEwen, Rathbone, Chatfield etc. thrown in there instead. We'd be where Ottawa is at, probably a lot worse lol. That's more closer to the edmonton model

Coaching wise they could use a lot of work, but no one complained last season. Green can't force players to do their part, only guide them what they need to do to win. When they do it, they look strong and comeptitive like last season, Jets win was a great example. The problem is they don't show up consistently, especially when they make a bad turn over and start to panic, with "here we go again" mentality. Only Hoglander seems to be immune to it, he fights for the puck like his life depends on it, petey used to do this, but not this season for some reason.

Miller/Hughes/Petey underperforming is partially why we're doing so bad. But Russell is donezo, Sutter and Myers go from looking fine to making braindead plays all the time, Beagle is useless outside of defensive assignments and Eriksson isn't even playing. Take Myers/Eriksson/Sutter alone and these guys take up more cap than Markstrom/Tanev/Toffoli. I mean sure, relative to realistic expectations they aren't collectively doing that terrible but given the cap space they take up and the players we lost due to their presence, their performance is completely unacceptable. Again, not like we can expect much better but everyone knew it would come to this the moment these contracts were inked. Now we're in a situation where we're completely fucked when the young guns are slumping and as a fan I'd rather not live with that expectation.

Agreed, but even if there was more cap from those guys, signing a superstar like pietrangelo won't save this current team lol
Myers is needed despite his occasional braindead plays, he also makes great plays. His contract sux but just cuz he's making more than he should doesn't mean we shd discredit him. I'd take him 10/10 times over sbisa and other fringe nhlers the Canucks had for awhile playing a lot of minutes.

Tonight they just seem disinterested and too tired while leafs were well rested and already a fast team. The canucks were like 1 step behind in every play, maybe when the season is closer to being over the Canucks schedule will be less condensed so they can actually practice more with the new team. Right now it looks like bunch of guys individually playing rather than as a team.

I think Green needs to put Eriksson back in the bottom 6 or something, playing virtanen or gaudette less than 10min isn't a game changer. Might as well have someone that can at least be at least defensively responsible.

This sums up the team, best line struggling and holding back the team. While the bottom 6 are overachieving compared to past seasons and Hoglander is literally 1 man army every night. I wish Petey has the same drive as him, as he did the past 2 seasons. it's so weird seeing him so down and not feeling like he enjoys playing. Is it the contract? Is it markstrom leaving him? Malhotra coach leaving?

Imagine if the lotto line is on the opposite side of the graph, like expected. The team wouldve been a lot better than last season, since the bottom 6 past season is where the lotto line is currently at.

It is a complete reverse from what we have come to expect.

Usually we complain the 3rd/4th line guys are not putting in their share.....

Now they are overachieving and the 1st line is squandering those gains.

Petey looks depressed for sure. He better get used to it though. Players get traded and are lost to free agency, staff move on and the parts constantly change. If that is what is bothering him he needs to shake it off somehow.

It is not just Petey though. J.T Miller looks like a different player in a very bad way. He was one of the best 200 foot players in the league last season... Now he is a liability. Turnovers, way less fight in the puck battles and poor positioning out there.

He is still a point a game player but is a shadow of his former self in terms of the solid 200ft play.

Boeser has been a standout for me. He is having a good season despite Petey and Miller struggling. If those two played like we have come to expect imagine how strong this top six could be.

Boeser really emerged during last years playoff run even though the points did not show it. Now he is playing the same kind of game and is leading the team offensively.

Travis Green: Our team needed to practice. We've had one in the last 13 days or something like that. As a player, when you're in a rut like this, it helps you mentally to go out and work.

Jesus I knew they lacked practice because of the insane schedule to start the year, but holy shit. Just 1 practice in almost 2 weeks? rofl. I'm gonna assume the 1 practice they had was the short break before playing the Jets and destroying them. Hopefully once the schedule calms the fuck down, it's not too late for them to turn it around. One thing I learned from this team is that they got some strong mentality for a young team

Considering the Canucks lost tanev and markstrom, and the lotto line is struggling defensively, and 4th line being non existent with gaudette/virtanen doing fuck all, the team ain't too bad I guess. If Miller and Petey can start back checking and not causing turnovers, the team should theoretically be much better, assuming the bottom 6 still does their part. The 2nd line is steady and consistent too. Scoring the most in the league... They clean up giving away sbisa specials every night, then the Canucks should start winning again

Crazy. They just cut-off the show that was going on at the time and told the employees that corporate security would be kicking them out in 30 minutes.

Now 650 and their homerism has the monopoly.
