Shouldn't they be looking for a goalie? Their defense isn't god awful, but they have a bottom tier goalie.

and also, philly fans are delusional, id gladly have bryz over nemi, dosnt matter how good there goalies are, they will always be the scapegoat

The fact that the Preds wouldn't be able to trade Weber for a full year makes me believe they won't match. To pay him $28M in the next year just to trade him? I can't see it happening. Especially with 4 first rounds on the table.

This will give us an overabundance of d-men though. And counting RFA's we were already at the 50 contract max. At least one player is on the move

four late firsts is a garbage package compared to what they'll get next year in a trade and you know it. Weber wouldn't have signed a 14 year offer sheet if he really wanted to leave Nashville, as now he has to stay there for 14 years if they match. Either way with Holmgren the contract probably violates the CBA and Philly will end up getting fined a first round pick and the offer made null.

Preds will issue a statement today. Team is fully evaluating situation, but, Preds have previously indicated plan to match any offer sheet.

how? he gets paid 1 mil for the remainder of his career, even if its front loaded. this isn't like the kovalchuk deal where he was going to be paid like 500k for the last like 3 or 4 years of his career.

Nashville, Tenn. (July 19, 2012) – Nashville Predators President of Hockey Operations/General Manager David Poile issued the following statement this morning:

"We are in receipt of the offer sheet signed between the Philadelphia Flyers and Shea Weber. Under the rules pertaining to an offer sheet, the Predators have one week to decide whether to match or accept the compensation. We have stated previously that, should a team enter into an offer sheet with Shea, our intention would be to match and retain Shea. Our ownership has provided us with the necessary resources to build a Stanley Cup-winning team. Due to the complexity of the offer sheet, we will take the appropriate time to review and evaluate it and all of its ramifications in order to make the best decision for the Predators in both the short and long-term.

“We do not anticipate any further comments on this situation until we make our decision within the next seven days.”
