Life isn't satisfying, there's no wonder. How many people think about it every day, every time something bad happens. That's our predictiment virtue of our Darwinian Nature and malcontent with our lot in life.
sounds like a stupid cliche but I live by it....
Ignorance is bliss.
You can be optimistic or pessimistic, choice is yours. I choose (and am usually successful) in being happy.
I get depressed when I get into deep philosophical thought so I just try to avoid it. So usually I just dumb myself down and decide not to play with the full deck of cards. It is easier and makes life better.... for me anyways. Nothing wrong with that. Personal happiness should be your only goal.
While I agree that your comment is rational, that does not mean you have to follow that way of thinking. You can make up whatever you want to make yourself happy, or just flat out concentrate on removing some thoughts that bother you. Not easy to do obviously....
When you start to realize that we just act in self interest and do not care about each other it can be a drag. So I just like to think most of us are all honest, caring people and we do the right thing because we feel empathy and are compelled to do the right thing. But I do not think that is true at all.
People, objects, activities and so fourth are just agents of our own happiness. I don't help out my friends/family because I am benevolent and care about people. I do it because the cost (sadness) is outweighed by the happiness I get from helping others.
So for my own self interest I will go out of my way to help people, so long as the reward is greater then the loss. I could care less how good it makes another person feel. If I no longer gain a personal reward (mentally) for being kind, considerate, charitable etc I will stop helping others without any thought.
Thankfully I get enjoyment out of being a decent human being, but if that stops I would just end up being an asshole, and that would not bother me. So I can see how some people are complete dicks, and I can't even fault them for that. If you get nothing out of it for yourself why do anything nice.
