How many people here are from London? Just C4nes? Why does the city not have a highway going through it. It takes like 45 minutes to an hour to get from one end of the city to another. That's ridiculous.

Because there's nothing on the other side of it.

I mean like a highway through it, like most major cities have. Allows you to get from one side to another quickly. They have one in Kitchener-Waterloo and if we didn't have one traffic would be horrible. London it's near impossible to get across town during rush hour.

Most major cities in Canada don't have actual highways running through them, do they?
I figured it was a Toronto and Toronto area thing.

Pretty sure most of the cities out west here have highways to the city and major thoroughfares but no actual highway like the 401 or whatever cruising through the city

Nanaimo has 2 highways B)

Parkway bypasses Nanaimo, and the "old" highway goes through

Is it an actual highway or just a road designated as one?
Like Oak Street in Vancouver is a 3 lane each way road, and is technically highway 99 or 91, I can't remember which. But it's really not a highway compared to the 401

When I think of highway I picture the 401 and overpasses running through the city.
Not just a big 3-4 laner each way road with no divider

They don't have to technically be highways but they have to fill the role. I don't mean the 401 either, the highway through my city is connected to the 401 but it runs through the heart of the city. Most major cities in Canada that I've been to have something like that even if it's not an official highway.

What I mean by "highway" is a road that is at the minimum 4 lanes across, and in certain areas can expand to 8 or even 10+ lanes. It has on-ramps, off ramps, collector lanes, overpasses, bridges, tunnels, maybe just one of these (On/off ramps) but maybe all of them. It is also the major thoroughfare in the city.

Oh ok.
My edit addresses this point.
And if you mean that, then yeah I agree.
London is really shit for traffic.
If you stick on Wonderland you can get through alright. Western/Wharncliffe is technically the "highway" running through it.

There's actually a few "highways" that go through London, but few are efficient.

@edit
Vancouver has none of these.
London has none of these, to my knowledge.

Yeah I was on Wharncliffe today and it's not efficient at all. A major thoroughfare has to keep traffic moving and you can't do that when you have businesses all along the side of road, dozens of lights and multiple other major roads bisecting the road.

Apparently in the 1960s/70s when Kitchener/Waterloo was building our expressway, London contemplated building one as a well but decided against it. They really need one know but it would cost billions.

That's how Vancouver works. /shrug

I don't remember Vancouver well enough (Was only in and out of it), but I think most cities do have them. Vancouver probably needs one. Ottawa has one, I remember Montreal having one, I know Calgary has one. If Vancouver doesn't have an expressway I think they're the exception not the norm for major cities. London is pretty much the only major city in Ontario that doesn't have one.
