Gonchar and Datsyuk were really close to leaving the NHL for the KHL this summer, according to Metallurg's GM Velichkin.

I would be absolutely shocked if Datsyuk leaves just after signing his extension. I'm sure they're throwing 15m+ at him though, but seeing how he came from an impoverished family he's always been very modest about money. He's definitely gone in 4 years at the end of this current contract though.

He will be 39 at end of the 4 years. He will be at retirement age either way.

Well, Datsyuk has that skillset that would let him play to 42 if he wanted to. Plus he'd be a great role model for the younger guys near the end of his career.. but he's choosing to leave on top and spend a few years more quietly in the KHL, which is something that's absolutely respectable.

Fedorov was apparently a key player in stealing kovalchuk and has stated he is actively trying to get Datsyuk too. Looks like it's back to booing Sergei.

Datsyuk will play til he's like 45 in the KHL.

Nobody will hit him and his skill set will just let him coast around sniping all day
