what year was it? wouldn't do the trade any time before 2012.

he said it was prior to him being fired (jan 2013). So most likely end of 2012.

interesting, in hindsight that would've been the best time to make the trade. The leafs legit would've been fucked so hard long term. Reimer and Kadri were excellent in the shortened season, doubt Lu > Reimer would've made up for the Kadri vacuum. Schneider was excellent for several seasons as a workhorse starter in NJ so that plus adding Kadri and Gardiner - the trade could've extended our window with the Sedins, while still having what would probably be top 10-15 picks in the stable. Probably no Horvat but maybe we have players like Mantha and Vrana. Who knows. But had Burke taken the asking price he wouldn't even have the credibility to be on air nowadays. Even dropping the 2013 1st and Gardiner would've made it a very bad trade.

Fuck podkolzin is going to be a stud. I really hope tryamkin works out so pod can have a fellow Russian big bro on the team.
I still can't believe podkolzin fell to 10th
If he doesn't pan out to be top 6 in NHL he will definitely be at least a bottom 6. He figured the league out after struggling to find his game in KHL as a 18yr old at start of 2019 but as soon as 2020 hit he solidified himself on the roster.

Virtanen-gaudette-podkolzin would be a sick line, green will love podkolzin right off the bat,cuz he already has the small details and plays away from the puck figured out for a young guy.

I love his play style.

He is hard nosed and just goes for it. I can see him being a top tier agitator. Nobody likes to play against someone with that kind of drive.

Of course he has the skill too. If he was a North American player there is no way he would slide to 10.

I like the fact he can be either end up being a top 6 guy or a bottom 6 physical prescence.

Chances for NHL success are very high imo.

Hell yeah, he was rated top 3 behind Hughes and kakko for forwards for a bit but he somehow dropped so far down. Really strong draft though, most guys that went ahead are some quality prospects as well. I know Benning & is a Co. were extremely high on zegras and wanted him. However I'm happy the Canucks were able to get podkolzin np after zegras was gone.

A bit of his piece from the athletics article:
According to data from EliteProspects, Podkolzin helped SKA control 54.8 percent of possession when he was on the ice. That would be impressive on its own, but Podkolzin has helped dominate the inside on each end of the rink — driving a monster 73.1 percent share of scoring chances and 69.3 percent of expected goals.

That's a monster 18yr old kid on a 4th line playing limited minutes against men in arguably the best league after nhl. His goal was to become one of Russia's best defensive forward and it seems like he's achieving it. Especially towards the later half of season, something must've clicked in his brain lol. He got so much development left to polish his game.

Shoulda kept Hansen. Jk lul

Sucks he didn't make it, very professional and positive attitude despite not working out in the end. He was one of those top 6 or bust players, and he didn't do much with Petey/boeser. When he did, he looked amazing but he was way too streaky and depended a lot on Petey. Didn't seem to have chemistry with anyone else, and his play away from the puck was very lack luster.

Was worth trying Goldobin, had the talent but never put it together to justify playing him outside of soft minutes.

Wish him the best.

I don't think it was for a lack of cooperation or effort.

He wanted to be a Canuck. It was just top 6 or bust and did not make it.

If you are bottom six you have to be gritty, tenacious and physical. That was not his play style so there is no place for him on the bottom six even though his hands are above average.
