I love his play style.
He is hard nosed and just goes for it. I can see him being a top tier agitator. Nobody likes to play against someone with that kind of drive.
Of course he has the skill too. If he was a North American player there is no way he would slide to 10.
I like the fact he can be either end up being a top 6 guy or a bottom 6 physical prescence.
Chances for NHL success are very high imo.
Hell yeah, he was rated top 3 behind Hughes and kakko for forwards for a bit but he somehow dropped so far down. Really strong draft though, most guys that went ahead are some quality prospects as well. I know Benning & is a Co. were extremely high on zegras and wanted him. However I'm happy the Canucks were able to get podkolzin np after zegras was gone.
A bit of his piece from the athletics article:
According to data from EliteProspects, Podkolzin helped SKA control 54.8 percent of possession when he was on the ice. That would be impressive on its own, but Podkolzin has helped dominate the inside on each end of the rink — driving a monster 73.1 percent share of scoring chances and 69.3 percent of expected goals.
That's a monster 18yr old kid on a 4th line playing limited minutes against men in arguably the best league after nhl. His goal was to become one of Russia's best defensive forward and it seems like he's achieving it. Especially towards the later half of season, something must've clicked in his brain lol. He got so much development left to polish his game.
