Yea the year before he got the c it was a little better but last year he played with 0 intensity or emotions at all.. In the last games of the season it was a little better but it was too late already
Didnt see him play the exib games but i hope the new comers and torts critics will wake him up this year
Patches is Montreals version of Toronto's Phil Kessel.
He's no Captain - period.
Doesn't mean he's not a good player - and that perhaps behind the scenes he has the right mind-set and clearly the teams vote.
But as an integral part to the future of the franchise? Nope. A key player - of course. But he's a piece of the puzzle and not the picture.
Now to his defenseHe was three points shy of his previous years record year, and still his second career best year. In a collapsing team - with poor goal tending, no confidence in the group and a cluster fuck of a front office.
The guy does what he's supposed to do, each and every game - with no complaints.
He doesn't deserve to be traded just to become an asset to another contender. We can be contender.
I don't believe we are . But with Radulov, and Weber, we should see some noticeable improvements both up front and on the blue line. Both of which will take some pressure off of Patches - and with Subban gone that's one less person to be accountable for. Subban is his own person, a great player, and a great asset - but he plays his own way, and Therrien, Patches and Co had zero control of that situation.
If Price remains healthy. Radulov can keep consistent numbers - (40-50 points targets) and Weber keeps up his consistency of the last few years - then we have a solid chance of actually being a contender.
But I feel Patches needs to drop the C
and we still need another Key defender - because Markov isn't getting younger, and there will be a big hole to fill when he's gone.
I do not forsee another contract for him
