Another tough setback for Michael Ferland.

He was forced to leave yesterdays game due to a recurrence of concussion-like symptoms.

It was his first game back with Utica on a conditioning stint.

You have to feel bad for the guy. Obviously he wants to play but I think management would be best off to step in and shut him down for the season.

Hopefully he can play for us next year. However there is a chance his playing days could be over.....

I don't want to see him be added to a long list of pro athletes suffering from brain injuries due to concussions after their playing days are over.

On a side note could someone fill me in on the implifications this will have on his cap hit? If he retires or goes on LTIR what kind of cap relief would the Canucks receive?

I think we get his full 3.5mil caphit back if he's on ltir and "retires"

he's under 35 so even if he retires, it wont matter for the team, but he will not be paid. So I highly doubt ferland wants to retire, cuz this was pretty much his last payday contract. I can o ly seeing him retiring through ltir

Thanks for clarifying.

Ya I would not retire either if that was the case.

He will be set for life so long as he can keep his health in tact.

The team is doing well right now, led by exceptional goaltending, so I this is not as big of a blow as I would have first thought when he got injured.

That is true. For some the timing is perfect.

A day trip to Vancouver would be pretty decent I imagine.

I went to Bowen island for a day trip in the summer and it was perfect.

Hard to do when the refs can't manage the game lmao
