I could run my goldfind barb to get 2.5 mil in ~15 minutes + potential item/rune drops.

and could sell it for 3-4 fg. If gold is going for 2.7 cents/mil I think it is safe to say it would be more productive to farm gold in D2 then in D3.

/e and in considering that you could get currency in D2 for like 2 fg it was effective. 15 minutes to get 2 random shakos, or something similar. Not bad. And I did alright doing it plus it was super fun to gamble to some gg rings/amy/circlets.

/e as discussed below, even if it was not a primary currency (runes were pretty much the standard) it could still be effective to collect gold. Lots of people had GF barbs. I spent lots to make mine arguably the best on the server, and it was worth it because I got a good return.

Not to mention d2 goal doesn't play nearly as pivotal a role as d3 gold does.
