The contract is an absolute eyesore but if he was just paid a grinder level in salary nobody would complain. He is just overpaid by 4-5 million. No big deal haha.

i swear markstrom alone got the team like 20 pts this season lol

Man the clip triggers me so much. We're basically trying to defend like prime Kings except our defensemen aren't anywhere big and imposing defensively to make Markstrom's job easier. It kinda makes sense tactically to collapse and keep lines of sight clear, and it's good use of players like Horvat and Beagle but the blueline isn't built for it. Only a matter of time until we lose Tanev long term and we essentially become unable to defend.

Myers hasn't panned out the way I had hoped. I feel like he would be an awesome playoff guy but right now he seems mediocre. I'm not gonna grab my pitchfork quite yet but he certainly needs to be better for us down the stretch!

Already wasted too many paragraphs on him lol. Just hope he'll be only a bit overpaid and not be Eriksson in the blue line.

When you hit the FA market you better be ready to overpay.

I don't think he is a terrible defenseman. His contract is pretty bad though.


He has some good qualities about him:

- He jumps in on the rush at opportune times to add to the offense.

- He is pretty good at finding a way to get shots through to the net when there is bodies in front.

- His skating is quite fluid for a guy his size.


Then you have the negatives:


- He loses battles in the corners to smaller players frequently. This trait is what I hate the most about him by far.

- He makes poor decisions on when to pinch at times.

- He can not be relied upon to shut down the oppositions top players (at least in my opinion).

When you weigh all of those things together you have a half decent defenceman.

You don't have 6 million a year on a 5 year contract with trade restrictions though. Not even close.

That is the free agent market though. This is not uncommon. You get a decent player that you have to overpay for when you go that route.
