This is my favorite thread.
How many more days before oilers fan realize it's the rebuild 3.0. With Cogliano/Gagne/Gilbert Hall/Eberle/Yakupov McDavid/Draisatl/RNH/Puuljarvi we are on the right track to rebuild!!!!
Edit: This is honestly what happens to an organization who cant develop talent or scout worth two shits. Think of all the high 2nd, 3rd, 4th round picks that the Oilers have had and they have almost nothing to show for it. Constantly bringing 1 OA picks into the lineup seriously stunted some offensive growth on guys like RNH, Yakupov, etc.
Not sure what you mean by 3.0?
There was the hall/Hopkins/eberle rebuild , now there's the Leon , macdavid , poolparty? rebuild. Anyone didn't see that once mcdavid was here, and Leon developed as hoped that 14,4&93's days as oilers where numbered wasn't paying attention.
No one I know thought the immediate aftermath of the smythe era was a rebuild , it was a we think hemsky / horcroft / gagner are pretty decent and we can middle of the pack it.
It's also no secret that our drafting though the 2000's was horrid. Theres a lot of reasons behind that I could go on all day...
Not sure what you mean by Hopkins / yakapov being stunted.
You mean bringing them in too early stunted them?
Or not enough ice time and being drained of their potential on 3rd line?
Hall eberle and Hopkins got all the ice time they needed. To much , to fast probably. Yakapov didn't get the same automatic 1st line role and he was unable to hold onto even a second line role when given the chance. That's coaching and his own fault pretty equally. Developing with a new coach every six months doesn't work...
When people say yak didn't get a shot I say he didn't earn one , look at Leon. He struggled in limited roles his first year and half , then took the initiative, improved, and earned his top six role in the year macdavid was injured.
