yes it can ofc. make a ladder and have everyone make new characters for ladder. already created characters and items are all non ladder. problem solved. i can see this happening at some point

Yeah, I don't see the problem with it.

Ladder was the only reason I played D2 towards the late stages. I'd come back every year and play for a month or two then quit until next reset lol.

I play D3 so little now (I had quit before but now I'm back, kind of), it'll probably get me excited to play again
