It has been a problem for years. The Canucks do not have the defensive capability to shutdown the opposing teams best players.


I saw some things I liked this game. Optimistic for a better outcome next game.

top 6 was good, really liked how pearson played specially. a bit more finish and we'd be praising petey and bo for enabling their teammates. myers also did his best to start living up to his payday.

but first game of the season and the overpaid veterans are playing like they've already checked out, the McDavid goal made Hughes look very bad but he shouldn't have been trying to clean up after Sutter to begin with. virtanen completely invisible with his future on the line. schaller and leivo, you don't expect much from either to begin with. one game in and tyler fucking motte's absence alone eaves a hole. not a good look if we need to rely on petey/bo/markstrom having carry performances every other game.

I don’t mind leivo. He is always hard on the puck etc. Sutter probably tipped the first goal but fuck it idc after that shit giveaway. Much rather have baer/motte/xx in over ericksson. Motte on the pk/his general hustle is much needed over that slow poke. Things hopefully will start clicking in the next few games. Pleasantly surprised with Myers game overall tonight as he didn’t look too out of place and that long reach came in handy more then once.

Virtanen did a half ass play towards the end of the game where he chipped the puck towards the net in the offensive zone, then he appeared to lose interest halfway through as he chased the puck.... Really pissed me off. I don't think he gives a shit anymore. Bringing in Miller and Ferland has turned him sour I think.



What are the implications if we send Sutter down. Can he even be forced to be sent down once the season has started with his contract status? IIRC it will not even save us much cap if we do.

I just hate slow players. If you can't keep up how can you expect to be effective.

As said, Myers looked good, as did Miller at times. At least it looks like we have made some good moves in the off season.

No point really. Should just keep him for 4th line/pk duties. Gaudette center the third. 3 “scoring” lines is fine by me lol

Yeah it was end of their shift with no gas left in their tank and was looking to get to the bench. Tanev was out of position because he drifted towards the bench, both hughes and tanev got fucked by sutter big time. They probably didn't expect Sutter to turn that shit over so quickly, which was their mistake.. assuming to trust a "vet" with balls. Hughes still managed to knock the puck away from McDavid but it wasnt enough. That was 100% on Sutter and even green benched his ass the entire game after that shitty mistake.

motte is injured, green wants to play him but can't at least for another week.
