If you believe Bob Nicholson it was an organizational decision as the decision to fire chirelli was already made before koskinen was signed. I don’t believe that but it looks slightly less embarrassing to say the oilers believed in mikko than a guy who was fired could still make moves that important.

yeah i remember how it was confusing when PC was the GM he signed kosh, then he got fired shortly after. So was it loloilers telling PC to sign him and he did thinking it will save his job, or did he get fired because that was the last straw for loloilers?

Young players really need more coaching on playing near the boards with their back turned, seems like this is a recurring issue throughout the league

I can see why some teams are hesitant to play their stars in Pre season games, because a lot of fringe or no name players think playing reckless is playing hard and the right way to get attention to get a job in the nhl. Fatenberg is out, hughes is also out even though they say he's not injured but he left the game after being slashed hard in the hip. Just after losing some of his teeth after being high sticked by the same player, his mission was just to hurt Hughes whole game. Boeser should have assumed that he could get boarded like that because nhl is shit at trying to get rid of dirty plays despite making a statement to do so, it sucks they have to assume the worst and not play to their full potential but it's what they gotta do if they wanna play a full season. I guess boeser figured tierny id not that type of player and he's a regular in NHL and wouldn't do the hit with all the time in the world, but that's how he got rekt

Imo the number one issue the league should be dealing with is boarding calls exactly like that one. There was 2 or 3 against Edmonton last year that went un-penalized when that should easy be a 20 game suspension. Hard to find a play that is higher probability for severe injury than that. Garbage (or garage) league 20 odd years later still.
