You say that now before you've truly started classes. I know plenty of people who thought the same thing than suddenly its the end of Christmas Holidays, they get their marks back and they failed two classes, and only passed two because they had to drop one mid semester due to poor marks.
Yeah, my fiancée messed up big time her first semester. Thought she could balance social and academic life, she couldn't. She's not stupid either. Ends up failing multiple classes first semester and gets put on Academic Probation. She made them up, got back on her feet, decided to commute to Hamilton every morning instead of living with friends near campus. Of my friends that went to University, I'd say probably half messed up first year.
Never went to University so I have no personal experience but I know plenty of people who screwed up, and I can't understand why. Priorities should be priorities. In the US that should be magnified considering you are paying significantly more for schooling than in Canada. $3000 for a semester in Ontario (Which is the highest in Canada) isn't so bad. $20,000 at certain American schools? That's insane.
The vast majority of people in USA universities are there on their parents' money. They don't internalize the costs so they don't act like the costs apply.
I didn't even know what the dollar tag was on my education until my sophomore year.
