I remember at the turn of the Millennium, business lounges were hard to sell and the crowd wasn't selling out anymore. Merchandise wasn't selling either, by today's standards. The current owners understand that they can't afford going back to those days.
So as you said, they want to win, and unlike what our clueless fellow thinks, they paid 8m because otherwise they would have lost him after his 1year arbitration contract.
