I don't think anybody questions O'Reilly's ability or potential.


The thing is that he's demanding 1B center money after having one 60 point season, and nothing over 30 before that.


The demanding the captaincy was obviously odd, as well.

Frankly I think Colorado would match so what I have to say is pretty much moot anyways.

That being said, the Flames have cash to throw around in all honesty. They are weak at Center, and giving up a 1st/3rd and maybe overpaying for a season or two isn't that bad. The big thing to me is if he sticks around after two years. If he plays 2 years here and bolts I wont like the deal, but if he's around for the future then I dont mind overpaying him for the first two years he's here.

I think it's a pretty shitty move on Calgarys part. They will have a great pick this year, and essentially are giving up a 1st and 3rd just to have him in the lineup next year. Maximum of 29 games he can play this year

I can see it happening. But either way they are probably going to finish in the 14-11 range. Add the fact that any team out of the playoffs can win the lottery, and they're giving up a lot for what could be a rental.

Personally I think it is massive overpay as well. Not trying to bash his talent, and I'm sure a lot of teams out there would love to have him, but he is not the player you build your team around which is essentially what Calgary will have to do if they want to resign him after this deal.
