How do you figure?
Based on watching every game of the season and playoffs. Sbisa was bad but Bieksa was at least just as bad. And then we of course had a total moron for a coach who, among other dumb things, thought the Sbieksa pairing was a good idea.
Bieksa has been unstable defensively pretty much his entire career outside of the times he was paired with Hamhuis. His appeal was his "all-around" game, including leadership and physicality, but he's clearly on the decline and doesn't offer these things anymore.
He doesn't have offensive ability and he's inconsistent at best defensively. His play in the Calgary season was beyond embarrassing, and that's excluding the on and off-ice interactions with Ferland who put Bieksa to shame.
All that said, I guess it's possible for him to have a solid season in a sheltered role with an elite team.
