That’s why I wanted to get it done in 6 because Game 7 worried me. I’m not gonna lie. Especially with the team we were playing and the types of players we played against. We didn’t react properly whatsoever. All structure went right out the window. I wasn’t impressed by it at all. This is a team. Everything we do is as a team. The unanswered question is still the structure when we get under stressful periods. When you’re not playing well, you have to fall back on your structure. It failed us at critical moments. That’s what I’m going to evaluate. And you just don’t evaluate it overnight. I’ve got to think about it.

On whether the Ducks need an elite defensemen to win
When we won, we had two of them [in Pronger and Niedermayer]. I’d take one right now. Yeah, it would be nice, but if you can tell me where to get one, somebody please tell me and I’ll go do it. I’m not afraid, as you know, to make a move. We got lucky a few years ago to have those two guys. Right now, I’m trying to grow it from within. I think I have a few possibilities to become those type of people. Right now I’m building from within until I hear a name pop up where we can do some maneuvering.

On the possibility of signing Beauchemin and Beleskey
Boy, it’s gonna be hard. I’m not gonna sugarcoat it. I do not regret not trading either one of them. I wanted to give this team every chance to run at the Cup, and they did. You can criticize us for not moving them, but Burkie [Brian Burke] told me 10 years ago this was gonna be like the NFL and you’re going to have to let free agents go. And it’s happening to us. We’ll take a shot, and we’ll take a shot quickly. But I have a lot of issues in front of me tagging-wise when it comes to that. In a perfect world, I’d keep everybody and just add. But it’s not a perfect world, so I’ve got to stickhandle.
