If Canucks pull a rabbit out of the hat and actually get 1oa (not going to happen) do they have to pick Hughes? Even though greater need is Kakko.

I'd say a stud Dman is the greater need. Edler and Tanev are pretty good but neither are game changers.

So you are saying with the first overall pick you would not pick Quinn’s brother and go off the board and get a D man or trade down at the draft in Vancouver!?

I'd pick Hughes because he's the best player available, while listening in on offers that involve a high-value young D-man.

Drafting Kakko would create the same "problem" of maybe overkilling on filling a need (Boeser definitively can be a 1st line RW) so no point in not maximizing value.

Rather take chance with Hughes or kakko than gamble on a D to be game changers. I think Quinn has much higher chance of reaching that than the good d this draft.

Why would kakko be a greater need? I think if van somehow wins lottery and j Hughes lives up to the hype, petey can swift to wing since that's his original position. It'd be insane to have boeser, Hughes and petey in a line. But it's an impossible dream, and we will probably win the lottery of picking 15th overall

if the pick is 10-15 overall I would just try to package the pick in a deal to get a young, proven d-man who can play big minutes.

No exaggeration. I've watched over 1,000 Canucks games, that might have been the worst we've ever played.

Total domination. Markstrom was the only one who showed up and if he didn't it would have been ugly.

Incredible.

If we draft a center, the right move would be to trade Horvat for a top-pairing RHD.

Ballsy, but the right move.

It's Pettersson's team anyway.

hughes would be the only guy worth considering that option. but even then I'd be kinda iffy because Petterson is also a guy you want to have the puck and be on the ice as often as possible, and at some point you want to have a center who can play both defensively and be significant offensively. they'd need to be Crosby-Malkin for that arrangement to really work, otherwise having someone like Horvat just gives the rest of the lineup so much freedom and options.

or maybe trade horvat for a stud winger like Tkachuk or Teravainen. idk all based on a pipe dream but ya know don't let memes be dreams and all that

Sorry why not have him ride with Horvat. Look at Cgy with gaudreau and tkachuk. Marner/nylander??
Oshie/Wilson pavelski/nyquist(yes rental) Meier/Kane
Look at vegas lol. Marchessault/patches smith/stone
So many teams have good 1/2 punches on the same wing. Almost all of them top of the standings. Didn’t mention TBL as they are just stacked upfront.
Horvat has played with plugs all year. Then we would actually have two lines to throw out back to back. Having them play against their 5/6 defender as they would always get stuck vs one of them regularly.
