4 years. And they're only released if they graduate college. I think the rule is aimed towards players who decide they don't want to play college but go into a career instead, it's just too broad. A team would feasibly be able to keep someone from pursuing gainful employment elsewhere if they own his rights.

Pens don't need Bernier and Kessel would cripple them cap wise even worse than they are already. If you hear that rumor again slap some sense into the person what said it.

Oreilly sounds more likely but not straight up for Phaneuf. There'd be more involved, probably salary retention and/or a pick. ROR doesn't fit the strategy anyway.

Yeah those rumors don't really make too much sense. If you're going to trade Malkin, do it for forward depth, not another 8M+ guy in return.

Phaneuf would be a perfect fit for Colorado if he was like 26 instead of 30.
