Do you think we'll see the 2020 NHL Playoffs or is the entire season over?
The NBA is going to try and play the rest of their season and playoffs.
They're just going to push everything into July and August (normally the NBA Finals will end in mid June), and they'll delay the start of next season from late October to late December. I even heard some talk of Christmas Day also being opening day for the NBA in 2021. That's assuming the NBA can get back on the court in July. That's still wishful thinking at this point but it doesn't hurt to be optimistic as we're nearing April in 10 more days.
But in the NBA the players are so close to each other. I'd imagine a sport like baseball can be played without a crowd.
I'm not sure about hockey. They're playing close to each other but they're also skating fast and wearing equipment.
We've seen the WWE, horse racing and some other random sports being played without a crowd. Can hockey do it sometime soon?
I think the NHL season will be cancelled sadly.
Perhaps if things go well they could start in a couple of months time but that would cause problems for the following season.
I think it is just better to cut loses and start next season under normal circumstances. It is just not the same without people in the stands either. I can see WWE going on. That is sports entertainment. It gives people something to do with all this free time.
The league will have to figure out the draft lottery positions and determine how contracts will be handled etc etc. No way to do it without someone being ripped off.
I feel bad for some of the players. For example Ovechkin had a chance to tie Mike Bossy and Wayne Gretzky for most 50+ goal seasons with 9. Patrick Marleau could have passed Ron Francis and Jaromir Jagr to take 3rd place in games played with a shot of being the record holder next season if he kept playing.
