let my try and address each point here
all welches and paid backs are kept track on in a spreadhseet that i started, cratic used to keep it updated, i hope it has passed on to jbell or pens now
the wpb section was used for a while, we had 5-6 people on it, every single one of them welched a bigger amount than the first time
no welcher is welch listed for life, if they pay back they can earn their way off the list, once again this is something that records were kept of, i hope they still are
since we made those changes, we saw a decrease in repeat welchers, and a decreases in welches in general
but also an increase in users who actually atoned for their welches becoming decent members of the community, weve had 3-4 users who were removed from the welch list
as far as unknowns who should be active, cratic changed the criteria for active and may it somewhat ridiculous, with me and tom we made list additions every 3 months roughly and it didn't require a year and a half to get added, but we also had nomination threads that weren't completely filled with bullshit and complaining like every single one these days, people nominated and we selected from the nominations
as for the med selection
meds are definitely not only selected by eachother, meds were selected by nominations just like any other position, and then the top nominations go to vote by the current trusted/meds
i agree on everything needing to be transparent, but its also annoying as shit to have to deal with all this bullshit everytime we try and say something...so its easier to just make our decisions behind closed doors
lemme know if i missed something
Spreadsheet should be public accessible (readable, not editable). Especially if people are able to go from welcher to unknown.
There is no truth to the argument that in the past people welched after paying back a previous welch is proof that it will always happen. There are quite a few wpbs in other sections that are now positive parts of the community. Give people a chance. WPB gets little more respect than welcher, but it is a very big distinction to a lot of people. Does the amount welched matter? I see the people who welch the small amounts as the most pathetic. Especially considering it is pixels they are welching.
If they welch again, blacklist them. Let them know after they pay back their first welch if they do it again they will be blacklisted permanently. If people need to be tagged more than once then they clearly don't respect the rules and their permanent tagging is deserved. Mistakes also happen. People get wrongly tagged. Haven't seen it happen here but when we simply copy and paste other welcher lists into ours things can be missed. Especially considering we currently don't have wpb.
It's far easier to be welcomed back into the community when you have a wpb tag as opposed to a welcher tag. Unless their sig proves that they payed it back people will just always see that person as a welcher. The way it is now makes it seem like a permanent state of being. That might not be true because three or four unicorns made it off the welcher list back to unknown, but for everyone else it is true. Who are these people who made it off anyways?
The difficulty to get active tagged should be tied to the benefits of being active tagged. If all it is is not having to send upfront when people say ac active+ and upfront then it shouldn't be so hard. The same applies to active+ only freerolls. The intent is fine, but some of the people who aren't on the list are far from randoms who only seek out freerolls.
You just said it yourself, actives/meds/trusteds are chosen by other meds/trusteds. Sure, people can nominate others for it. Ultimately it is the meds/trusteds who decide by their votes.
The only bullshit is deciding stuff behind closed doors.

sounds like you want to welch
and then pay it back
wpb can be attained a day after welching
removed from welcher takes a long time and gaining trust back
thats my argument for it
Seems like an argument for both to be implemented to be quite honest.

holy shit, this thread blew up today...
all i can say is... people are getting WAAAAAYYYYY too worked up over the "active" or "welcher paid back" tag - it's just a tag...
if you hang around, do bets, have decent manners, even if you're unknown, I have no problem betting with you - regardless if you have an active tag or not
and i'm sure many other people here are the same
if you're unknown and you welch me, then i just send you a polite pm asking for the winnings, if i see you sign on and post and whatnot but completely disregard my message then i'll pm a med
if i am worried about my fg being taken away since it's a big bet, then i'll grab a med
it's not that difficult
prone is welcher tagged but he has no problem getting bets because he doesn't cry like a little kid, just like tx6 doesn't have trouble getting bets because people see he bets regularly regardless of whether he has active tag or not
the subforum used to be so laid-back and easy-going where people just followed the rules and respected each other and things got along great, now all we have is people just trying to piss each other off for some reason...
ps: price31 is trying so hard... i'm not even sure if he's trying to troll anymore...
Wpb is not just a tag. People see welcher and wpb differently. Not going to repeat myself 500 times so just read this for a more detailed explanation:
http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=73461061&f=203&p=496590015 .
Prone has no problem getting bets because he has rebuilt his image. He could have been living it up on the Jarome account but he decided to use that fg to atone for the bad decisions he made in the past. Tx has probably done thousands of transactions involving millions of forum gold over the past few months alone. He donated well over 100k to the baseball forum recently. He doesn't even ask for upfront in his threads.
Laid back and easy going isn't always the best approach and the rules aren't always perfect. People can argue and still respect each other.
