not my point at all

Yes it is. Why wouldn't they care about being honored for what they spent their whole life doing? Hhof is the premiere institution for that honor, just like the nhl is the premiere institution for hockey competition. If all they cared about was money, Elias would have left long ago.

It's not just for North Americans, it's for all hockey players. I doubt Tretiak doesn't care that he's part of it.

So you can prove that players that live outside U.S./Canada actually care about being inducted?

Asked nhl shop if they sold nameplates for which I could replace Kovalchuk with Sykora for the jersey I bought in May. This is the response I got:

"So this is all RUMORS(don't jump down my throat), but the Devils/Henrique hold up is possibly being caused by a POTENTIAL trade for Thomas Vanek. Don't know how true this is but we'll see. Thoughts?

And by the way, Happy Birthday Zach Pari$$$e"

The thing you're trying to say is that he's one of the best Devils ever. Sure, that's well and dandy which means he'll get his number retired by the Devils.
When you look for consideration into the HHOF, being the highest scoring player your team has had isn't necessarily something that plays a huge role.
Sure, it's a nod in the right direction, but just because the Devils retire his number doesn't mean shit to the HHOF.

If you take all those numbers and compare them to the crop he should be up against, you get this:
Most overtime goals in a season (4) - Presumably tied for second with a large group of people, behind Stamkos (5)
Most points in a season (96) - 339th all time.
Most points in the playoffs (23) - 106th all time
Playoff goals (45) - 65th all time
Assists (80) - 38th all time
Points (125) - 45th all time
Career Hattricks (8) - idk, but I would presume 8 is very low all time.
Career Assists (555) - 98th all time
Career Points (930) - 92nd all time
Career Goals (375) - 107th all time
Career GWG (78) - 29th all time

While his regular season numbers are pedestrian, by HHOF standards imo, his playoff numbers and success in the playoffs (two Cups) should help his cause most of all.
He's benefited from a long career, but his numbers aren't eyepopping by any standards.
Again, I wouldn't call him a lock, but I would say that these numbers give him a shot in weak years.
