I'd be ok with shipping Hudler off for overpay. Honestly, they just want to keep that top line together, best line in the NHL by far in March at least. So much of this year was about chemistry and the room. Big moves like that can be dangerous for morale, for lack of a better word.

I'm still not sold on this team, I think there's some good pieces but they were playing over their skill level last year and other than the top 6 and a couple d men the rest of the team needs improving
We were absolutely playing over our heads, but now is the time to make a few tweaks, and the experience of last year will be just huge for the young team moving forward. The Flames made the playoffs without Bennett, without Ferland-beast mode. We haven't yet seen the ceiling on Gaudreau, Monahan, Brodie, or Bennett, etc. Next year will be tougher because the bounces will catch up to us, but I'm hoping the development can counter that, somewhat.
As far as Hudler and Detroit, just an idea. So many other teams would be interested, as he's the best points-to-$ value around right now, and he's attainable for the right price. But I would absolutely take a run at Mantha ffs. Guy has a Nashville and Forsberg vibe to him.
