I get what PCG and Galch are saying but I'm with DD on this one.
Obviously there's no 100% correct way to decide which movie is better (which one wins more awards or makes more money isn't always accurate so you can't use hard stats).
But there are several things you look at like acting, writing, plot, story, etc. to decide how good a movie is. When you look at it this way, surely Gladiator is the better movie.
It's like looking at two hockey players who have the same number of points. Statistically they are the same but when you watch them and know what makes one "better", you can easily decide.
You also have to differentiate between "like" and "good". For example, I really like some songs that are bad songs; just 'cause I like them it doesn't make them good
