So tourists are being told under no circumstances should they put their heads under water on Rio's beaches, because as little as three teaspoons ingested (through the nose or mouth) are likely to make a person violent ill due to viral and bacteria levels 1.7 million times higher than those on your average US beach. The sand is also stricken with contaminants, and children under the age of five with weak immune systems are being warned not to go on. Now you might think I'm talking about the waterways we've seen in pictures, where the water isn't even visible; all you can see is black sludge and garbage, but I'm not. That water is obviously toxic, but what this warning is for is what ostensibly looks like pristine beaches.

I still can't believe they put the Olympics here. China actually cleaned up their best for the Olympics. Rio is still a mess. There's already been so many reports of athletes and tourists getting mugged, and it hasn't even started yet. The Private Security firm in charge was axed for gross incompetence and now a police force who's been on strike on and off has taken over. It's such a joke that Brazil got this.

They got it at a time when their economy was fairly well off and everything looked good until the oil prices collapsed.

Speaking of the Olympics, Calgary is making a bid for 2026, the last one obviously in 1988. Would be pretty sweet. Everything would need to be updated, but we still have the ski jumps, speed skating rink, etc, and obviously the mountains. Up at Lake Louise, whenever they have any kind of competition, all the equipment says "Vancouver 2010". We stole everything. B) just need a little rebranding.
