Wasn't sure where to post.

Apparently NHL is looking into having refs wear audio devices so they can talk to each other while play is going on, to prevent stuff like early whistles like the one with Price/Pageau last night.

They do this in soccer

Don't think I'm opposed to this.
More communication resulting in better calls is never a downside

lol

how do you want them to prevent that. happens so fast

early whistles happen in every game, just usually the goalie has 100% control of the puck

If they can have constant and immediate communication I don't see why not try it, it's as simple as saying "puck is loose" to prevent a whistle.

It could be helpful in many other situations, rather than have them huddle and discuss once the play is done and often times can't be overturned

That situation is an example but has revived the idea, they tested it a few years ago

if theres a ref or linesman on the otherside he could say "loose" or something to indicate the puck is still loose on his side
would also indicate hes got the best view so let him make the call when it needs to be made

but the "intent" to blow the whistle rule could still fuck with it they would need to go with a hard whistle until you hear it plays good

they could also use it to talk to toronto without huddling which kinda worries me tbh haha specially if they bring it in for the playoffs why not next season
