Some updates on our prospects:

Ready this season:
Jon Merrill (D) - Solid 2way defenseman & strong on quarterbacking the powerplay (MUCH NEEDED) ~ 55 points/season

Ready 2014-15 season:
Eric Gelinas (D) - Offensive dman, big guy, needs to improve his physical game though. 35 points/season

Ready 2015-16 season:
Stefan Matteau (C/Winger) - Had some issues in the QMJHL - basically discipline problems, but he is still very talented. Projected top 6 forward ~ 65 points/season
Reid Boucher (LW) - Not a big guy but incredibly talented shot. Projected top 6 forward. Compared to Brian Gionta ~ 60 points/season
Damon Severson (D) - Very well rounded dman - compared to Weber, Gorges, Myers, L. Schenn. 2 way defenseman ~ 45 points/season

Ready 2016-17 season:
Scott Wedgewood (G) - Similar play style and skill set as Carey Price. Future franchise goaltender perhaps? Depends how Schneider pans out

Others:
Maxime Clermont (G) - compared to Marty Brodeur: aggressive in goal, controls rebounds, and has a good glove. Needs to work on tracking puck
Alexander Urbom (D) - Huge guy that just needs to learn to use his size and he'll be an important shutdown defender
Arturs Gavrus (LW) - Highly skilled with the puck and very fast. Needs to get stronger & develop more
Ryan Kujawinski (C/RW) - Big guy compared to Nathan Horton.

And people say we have a weak prospect pool :bonk: gotta be optimistic people!

Really hope to see Lou move a vet dman for picks or something so Merrill could get NHL playtime when another dman gets injured. Looking forward to see Larsson in a full season now that he's more developed

I think for last few years we have indeed replenished an once weak D prospects pool

Now we gotta replenish our wing's prospect pool(it is really weak.. but at one point we had many rightw/LW already playing in the NHL lol(parise, elias, langs, gionta in top 6, also Tedenby seems more and more like a bust ;.. even though I like Matteau/Boucher but still !()

from ones I saw/read, Burlon,Merill,Gelinas,Severson are expected to do good.

I wished Merill would make the jump in the NHL, for that, we gotta move someone (I highly doubt someone will take Volchenkov ;()

for Elias.. I wouldn't say he's HOF asap his career's over.. I love him but eh, sure he's won the Cups/has been a heck of a two way forward/been part of the Devils sucess for a long time

I like to say he'll get his # retired(rightfully so) but highly doubt he'll get in the HOF.. kinda like Daneyko(Mr.Devil :D)

Not too many Devils fans here. I don't really hear too much about them, but if I want to I can come here and get all the updates on their team. I for one like that he's "talking to himself". It's better than no one posting about the Devils.

I'd say Elias is a lock, but it might take some time - probably not first eligible unless it's a really weak year for whatever reason. He'll definitely get his number retired - no doubting that along with MARTY FUCKIN' BRODEUR!

d and goalie prospects are looking good. i agree with wingers - actually, I think our whole forward depth need some improvements. Unless we sign Brunner, Zajac is our only solid center aside from maybe Henrique who don't get me wrong, is a great player, but I think it's really unlikely he'll ammount to anything more than a 3rd/2nd line center. And then ignoring those two, all we have is Gionta really who has the most heart of any player I've ever seen, but he's not blessed with a sportsmans' genes being 5' 7" lol. I really hope Lou trades Zidlicky/Volchenkov/Salvador (At least 1 of the 3) for prospects - thus clearing space, regaining our #1 pick lost by Kovy hopefully (next year is supposed to be an excellent draft year), AND less money the owner(s) have to pay lol

I think based on what I've seen and read, Merrill will definitely get some playing time this season and I definitely think he's ready for the jump. Gelinas needs another year developing and the rest of our prospects are iffy at the moment, which is okay if not good thing in my opinion because our roster is already more than full of vets - can't fully unload that at the moment in partial rebuild/salvage mode that Lou is in lol

Btw what was/is your d2 account (haven't played in like 2 years)? I see you're in Jon/Drew/Kenny's guild. didn't know anyone I might've PvP'd with/against was a njd fan

I dunno.
I definitely wouldn't call Elias a lock, but I could see him making it on a weak year.
He was there for the Cups right?

He's been a very underrated player and might miss because of that. Not as flashy as guys like forsberg and fedorov and I'm not sure he's done much of anything on the international scale (I.e. played but not won). Still he holds a ton of scoring records for the devils... But I agree, he probably will need to get in on a weak year. With only 3-4 players each year it's gonna be rough competition, especially considering the large pool of players who have been snubbed and are still waiting for their weak years.

I like Elias, but there will be a lot of competition in his class

The last two.

@dx iirc three or four bronze medals between Olympics and world championships.

the fact we are discussing elias into the HHOF shows how watered down the HHOF got and how few great players there are today

the question is, should every 1st liner with longlivety make it to the hall?

That's the equivalent of three or four conference final exits ;)

No but hhof is for contribution to the sport. Devils have contributed a ton and elias has contributed to the devils. He will get a look.
