Yeah just about anything works. $600 might be overpay

If you don't have a tablet already I'd go with that, just personal preference. Works perfectly for academic purposes, and they grow obsolete much less quickly than laptops so you can use it still when you're done with classes.

Android or Windows IMO though (android preferred), iPads still have lame word processing capabilities.
