I always feel strange about raising donations for X people funds, shouldn't we be raising the money for stopping what ever the systemic causes were?

I suppose in the states there are huge medical bills for the surviving victims. But the idea of giving a cheque to the family of the deceased seems odd. Your son was shot and killed heres 10k we raised...

still the funds they are aiming to raise are

2.5m for 49 killed and 53 injured. some of them must have had life insurance and health benefits as well.

I am happy people are giving but sometimes i feel that some events garner charity that could be used more effectively else where.
2.5m would be almost 25k per victim.

Fact of the matter is you can't et people to donate unless it's an event they feel feels about. So "viral" stuff wins out over practical.

this is basically what i am getting at,

but since its not as though the money would have been donated at all with out a polarizing event its still a good thing

I am in favour of stronger gun laws

but the problem is more about taking care of mentally ill and the poor. its more about people being disenfranchised by society and having access to guns then the guns themselves.

gun laws dont mean shit
look at Chicago arent their gun laws stricter than the rest of the country ???
clearly that is helping alot.
