The US has been a pile of crap lately and with this election its likely to get worse. But I don't think we can compare statistics when one country has 10 times the population of the other.

Far more than 10x the shootings though.

im not going to get into the whole thing but if you look at the gun crime (not jsut mass shootings terrorism etc) per capita in the us vs canada its not compareable

usa homicides per 100,000 = 3.43
can homicides per 100,000 = 0.38

one of the guys i work with is from texas he was up in toronto for some meetings and was talking about reinstating the draft

and i was like oh here we go, bat shit crazy texan

but his point was if politicians children were forced to serve instead of largely the poor who see service as the best of a bad selection of options maybe they'd think twice about jumping into every conflict.

I am in favour of stronger gun laws

but the problem is more about taking care of mentally ill and the poor. its more about people being disenfranchised by society and having access to guns then the guns themselves.

I always feel strange about raising donations for X people funds, shouldn't we be raising the money for stopping what ever the systemic causes were?

I suppose in the states there are huge medical bills for the surviving victims. But the idea of giving a cheque to the family of the deceased seems odd. Your son was shot and killed heres 10k we raised...
