I know a heavy equipment mechanic who make $40-50/hour and they definitely get overtime. Which equates to $75/hour. They often work 50-60 hour weeks (5 to 6 10 hour shifts) because there is such a labour shortage for specialized trades. So if he works 60 hours a week twice in a row, he'll take home ~$6800 in a two week pay period. I'm sure he wouldn't mind being called stupid.
Working for big companies isn't the same as working for local businesses.
Residential jobs, 1 man show with a bunch of labourers/apprentices is what I'm talking about.
These are the types of guys who probably pay some guys in cash under the table.
