Fort McMurray wild fire cost the oil industry almost a billion CAD

A lot of money but a pittance of gross revenue for the patch's oil firms. The good thing about this fire (if there is one) is that it will give a chance for Fort Mac to create some real infrastructure. The city should be much nicer after.

Would they rename it... Phoenix?

That may have been poor taste but I'm keeping it.

The city is based on temporary housing and a mobile population. There's a reason they've said the hotel industry will die. All those people staying in temporary facilities or hotels will now have apartments and complexes to live in. The city will be planned better and everything will be new. There will be billions put into Fort Mac rebuilding it.

From what I understand the infratructure has been protected well, and the structures that were destroyed were suburbs and a trailer park, so they're not exactly rebuilding the town on a blank slate. Besides, with the way the o&g industry is changing, I know I would take the insurance money and run if I lost my house.
