Crow outplayed himself like crazy this playoffs. And Quick was mediocre at best during the regular season. I think it's a joke that either makes Lundqvist-like money though.

agreed. top end goal tenders dont make enough. best players make 8-9 mil, why not the best goalies

because there's no goaltenders worth 8-9. the active goaltenders are pretty mediocre compared to history. there's no plante, roy, hasek, parent, etc

well, my point is that Quick's contract year was a lot more impressive than Crawford's.

yes dej, the 2011-12 Kings were a very good team but they barely made the playoffs; impressive considering they were second last in goal scoring. plus, Quick never conceded more than 3 goals in the PO's and tied Giggy's record for best SV%.

I guess. Quick is a mediocre season-long goalie who outplays himself in the playoffs. Take it as you will, skill-wise I would not rank him top 10 in the league.
Don't get me wrong, he's good, and I agree his ~5m AAV is better, but it's still a joke. I wouldn't build a team around either Crow or Quick and they're getting money like they're franchise players.

I would say there are very few franchise goalies out there right now. Lundqvist, Rinne, etc.

Not a fan of this deal. 6 mil for short term would have been OK to keep him on the team and see where the goalie situation goes from there. Or get him on at 6 years for 4-4.5 mil. But 6 years for 6 mil? Just too much per year for that length. Crawford is a decent goalie who excelled in the Hawks great defensive system. I think Bowman might be overreacting after the whole Niemi situation, or using Howard/Rask as benchmark, but even Niemi isn't getting this kind of money. Just very strange given the players that have to be resigned in the next few years and the unsteady cap situation.

Don't get me wrong, I like Crawford and want him to stay on the team, I just think Bowman could have pushed his agent a bit harder and gotten a better deal for the team.
