Do you use email? They look for consistent keywords in subject and body text and make a profile to sell.
IPhone or Android? They log keystrokes.
If you post "fuck crosby" on Facebook in DC you start seeing ads for OV jerseys everywhere.
At least Microsoft also uses the info to understand how you say certain words and it's literally three clicks to turn off data collection.

i would think if your in dc local sports teams adds would be common regardless of any fuck crosby facebook posts
maybe they changed it then becasue when it first came out if you tried turning it off you couldnt use a bunch of programs
at one point wasnt there a start menu add you couldnt turn off? thats likely what their data collection was for originally
also i dont update my windows 7 so they couldnt spy on me with a patch
