The average fan doesn't understand his strengths. Consistent controlled entries and denials, consistent quality first passes, etc. Things that keep you out of your D zone.

Gudbranson on the Canucks treats the puck like a grenade, ices it more times than he makes a tape to tape pass. But the average fan doesn't comprehend this, they just see Don Cherry showing his fights and crosschecks and they think he's a DFD warrior.

The average fan only understands goals for / against highlights. Yes, Gardiner seems to make share of awful or soft plays that lead to goals against, but you have to consider all parts of his game.

Every time I see this guy below the hash marks with the puck getting pressured i eat my nails

Offence is great and everything but I value defence on a defence man much more

The issue with Gardiner is the egregiousness of the errors he makes - how they directly lead to goals against/losses. He's just not an all situations defender. If you implement him correctly, without a doubt he has a positive impact. But if you want him to play over 20 minutes a night and in every situation he shows he can't handle it

he's a meat and potato's type of player, so he probably treats it more like a hot potato. I fucking lol'd when he got out-muscled by yamamoto the other day along the boards, he's like 150lbs?
honestly i'd prefer schenn and trade away guddy. They're like similar players, but schenn is still better on ice and he's an AHLer now  Guddy may be tougher, but its the lolnucks aint nobody gonna stand up for each other
