The San Jose Sharks signed centre Joe Pavelski to a five-year, $30 million contract extension on Tuesday. Pavelski has one year remaining on his current deal at $4 million. Last season, Pavelski finished with 16 goals and 15 assists for 31 points in 48 games for the Sharks.

I'd call that the upper bound of what he's worth right now. Thornton and marleau have limited miles, he and couture will take the reigns soon.

Well yea but sjs has 24m to sign their top 3 players, a goalie, and 4 scrubs. So they're probably losing marleau thornton or boyle even with Havlat gone unless pay cuts or creative trades

handing out that much money to everyone is an unsustainable pattern with the cap ceiling where it is - look at Penguins. Couple star players getting paid big money, rest AHLers.
Winning teams are almost always teams with talent spread throughout the roster and not a few big names up front.

They're kind of the reverse pens lol. Sign all their lesser players to one way contracts so they can't afford the stars...

There is no way that the cap is not going up. (and they will for sure buy out Havlat, that's an extra $5m right there)

Next year will be a GREAT off-season. So many big players will be UFAs, plus lots of team with plenty of spots to fill.
