Economic strain is the biggest reason the lid blew off this thing. It really shows that our society has become entangled to a far greater extent than most previously realized.
The line we walk is oh so very fine....
Between the little guy needing to work/keep doors open to prevent financial ruin to the corporate juggernauts (such as the one I work for) recklessly keeping their doors open, including still allowing public access. This may get worse before it gets better.
There is more emails going around at work from the credit department harassing employees to ramp up efforts collecting money from other businesses than there is concern over the virus. It disgusts me. We are being told to prepare orders for some companies pending credit approval.
Companies that were previously granted large credit balances are being asked to pay some or all of their balance before any product is sent out to them.
We are short staffed in the warehouse but the orders keep printing out because small time contractors and large construction companies are still pushing forward like nothing is wrong. Ignoring public health in favor of finnance.
Instead of concern over public safety management harasses us to send more product out the door so they can keep the money rolling in and collect bonuses.
Those we associate with are disgusted we remain open in one way, yet are grateful we are because it allows them to keep working as well.... It is such a strange feeling for me.... Such confliction in regards to whether I should show up to work or not.
This outbreak has solidified my pessimistic outlook on the way the world is so to speak. Priorities are all out of whack..... What can you do though. So many are one paycheque away from becoming homeless so they comply. Losing benefit plans and pensions deters many (including myself) from abandoning my shift out of principal.
So long as I am healthy I will continue to work. I could argue for both sides in terms of whether or not that is right or wrong.
Saw someone say today: “If this pandemic has taught me anything it’s that if aliens were to attack earth, the government’s first response would be to lower interest rates.”
