The majority blame Nylander. I blame the careless management group that just blindly assumed everyone would sign for a hometown discount after they landed Tavares.
i dont feel it's the case. It seems more like Nylader gave them a number from the get go and it is legit too much.

The leafs cant afford to pay Nylander what he is worth. Marner and Matthews with expiring ELC's will get obvious windfalls next year. Furthermore, Kapanen and Gardiner will need new deals as well. They are
trying to bully the kid into signing for less than he is worth and there is a smear campaign being run against him. I give him props for not budging. He won't get traded. No value in trading him away without getting a deal done.
Like I said, i dont think its the case he gave them a number and I have a feeling he is nowhere near worth it... I mean he ain't no pastrnak anyways. but also consider this is Kyle Dubas' first major contract negotiation so playing his hand hard and calling a potential bluff should have been expected. Not a whole lot of time to punch out a contract/ trade... but Nylander sitting this season out and picking up right where he left off in negotiations is going to stigmatize both ends no matter how this lands.
At some point Nylander must consider this is his prime years for developing more skill, how many millions is sacrificing your abilities worth?
