If it was 3-4 years though it wouldn't have been too bad. I think that's when we'll start seeing boeser and co really make their mark on the team

Not realistic, he turned down 5 yrs from Boston.. So it had to be a minimum of 5.. And we aren't a contender nor an attractive team for FA to sign us with anyway. 8.5+mil for 4yrs wud just make everyone else lol @ benning

There's no way to put this in a positive light.

I'm a big fan of Eriksson but these kinds of signings are not what we need right now whatsoever.

It's wrong, it's bad, and it's a good chance we'll regret it like most other big UFA signings. And the worst part is the contract will look bad at around the time we will need cap space to start pushing.

Same pretty much got the best FA available, got a solid 1st line, finally a good player to play with the Sedins and if they can reignite the chemistry they had few yrs back, it's all good. It'll be a matter of how long the sedins can play effectively. I honestly see Sedins have 4 more yrs, anything after is a bonus.

I think the last 2 yrs of Erikksons contract is a limited ntc, so a list of 14 teams he gotta list. So it's not tooo bad, plus he isn't a 1 dimensional player, like vrby was. He can pk and play responsible defensively. I'd just worry about him getting another concussion injury lol.

We went from the worst team to one of the worst teams and all that does is give us lower chances at the lottery.

lol nucks are never going to win the lottery,
last season was basically the highest chance they ever had with all the injuries,
and they still blew it by winning against 3 strong teams in a row towards the end of season
just gotta hope for the best now, like winnipeg who basically won the real lottery.

well honestly I don't think we'll contend for a cup for a while .. but IMO that isn't what this acquisition is about
it's about starting to create a team that players want to come to, learn from some skilled older players with playoff experience and BUILD that winning team down the line

Some veterans are necessary, but not at the expense of young assets OR cap flexibility (which is where we are failing).

Look at what the Leafs did this year. They picked up solid veterans on cheap contracts then flipped them at the deadline. Never sacrificed any picks, prospects or long-term cap.
Their management and coaches also created a certain culture that kept players safe. Even though they were the worst team it didn't feel like it, they always played hard and were in most games but just lost because the lack of talent.
They made sure the fans and media understood that losing like this would be part of the process so the pressure would be kept off the players.

Yes, the Oilers did it wrong because they didn't surround their skilled young forwards with veteran leadership, defense or goaltending. That doesn't mean rebuilds don't work, they just did it wrong.

Eriksson in a vacuum is a great player and a great role model. But signing him to a contract that will look terrible when we'll actually need the cap 3+ years down the road just to win a few extra games now is foolish.
