We desperately need top-3 potential D-man prospects and Juolevi is a very safe, low bust-chance pick.
His strengths are his IQ, passing and skating and that's exactly the kind of D-man that's valued in today's NHL.
He doesn't have the natural offensive abilities to be a PPQB but you don't necessarily have to be a 50 point guy to be a #1 D-man. Think Lindholm, ceiling wise.
I think it was a good pick based on the needs of the organization.
The prospect pool/young forward pool is deeper vs the D pool.
The importance of making correct reads and starting the play with a good first pass is very critical.
I don't think we will see too much flash with him, but he will be a solid 2nd pair d-man who can be used on both the PP for his vision and the PK for his awareness. I don't mind the pick either.
I don't know if he will be a first pair d-man like you say, but I do think he will be have the ability to be a PPQB. He has great vision and instinct. Even if the superior shot is not there he is going to know when to pass, and when to throw the puck towards the net.
