I hate this pick. Especially because Calgary gets Tkachuk. Now we get to hear about how we passed on this great player whenever he scores on us... ffs Benning, go eat a dick

3rd round pick: William Lockwood

Based on this highlight video and some scouting descriptions, seems like a Hansen type: strong motor, gritty, good skater, flashes of offense but nothing consistent. Probably 3rd line upside.

#140: Cole Candella

Only played 37 games (20 points) because of injury but was apparently the Hamilton Bulldog's best D-man when he did suit up.

Scouts/media on twitter saying he would have been a round 2 or 3 selection if he wasn't injured.

Really wanted the canucks to get him.

But we could have some steals in this draft.

I am not complaining at this point.

I know a lot of Canucks fans are unhappy with this pick but it wasn't totally off the board. It's possible Edmonton was going to take him at #4 if Puljujarvi didn't fall and he was probably around #6 in general.

We desperately need top-3 potential D-man prospects and Juolevi is a very safe, low bust-chance pick.

His strengths are his IQ, passing and skating and that's exactly the kind of D-man that's valued in today's NHL.

He doesn't have the natural offensive abilities to be a PPQB but you don't necessarily have to be a 50 point guy to be a #1 D-man. Think Lindholm, ceiling wise.

I think it was a good pick based on the needs of the organization.

The prospect pool/young forward pool is deeper vs the D pool.

The importance of making correct reads and starting the play with a good first pass is very critical.

I don't think we will see too much flash with him, but he will be a solid 2nd pair d-man who can be used on both the PP for his vision and the PK for his awareness. I don't mind the pick either.

I don't know if he will be a first pair d-man like you say, but I do think he will be have the ability to be a PPQB. He has great vision and instinct. Even if the superior shot is not there he is going to know when to pass, and when to throw the puck towards the net.

He's not on loan so it's Juniors or big leagues.

In other words, he's going back to juniors.
