Ppl who know nothing about hockey thought Tanev was overpaid and useless to be a top 4, but ppl like us who watched him play over the years knew he's a god lol.

There are so many things wrong with what you said...

1. Tanev is an advanced stats darling, it's his traditional stats that are low (points and hits).

2. Russell has terrible advanced stats. Similar to Gudbranson, he's supposed to be a defensive D-man but the advanced stats show that he's always in his own zone. That's why Dallas choosing him over Hamhuis was confusing.




Advanced stats can tell you facts, as long as they are in context, and aren't skewed by bias.

With the way stats are now, you can settle a debate like "who is the better puck-mover between player x and y" because there are definitive stats that tell which player is better at outletting and carrying.

Did Horvat, Virtanen and others graduate then? That list looks a lot worse than usual.

Horvat is at the very least a good 3C now so he's definitely graduated.

Virtanen is debatable but IMO he's like a NHL 4th liner. I think he's better suited for the NHL anyway because he does not do well with more time and space that he would get in lower leagues (remember the disastrous WJC lol).
