I know he has value with Miller being signed for 3 years. But that's flyers level fuckery with goaltending if it's true. I'm sure Demko would be happy in the short term but christ if I wouldn't eventually be hearing footsteps at my door if I were a canucks goalie prospect right now.

Demko doesn't give a fuck he's like 4+ years away.

The battle right now is between Lack and Markstrom.

It's a frustrating situation but what do you do? lol

Everyone(fans & teammates) LOVES Lack but I think he gets a bigger return than Markstrom and you can't move Miller.

Trade off two franchise goaltenders then sign another franchise goaltender with a franchise goaltender in the works. Then draft a potential franchise goaltender and go to trade off your third franchise goaltender. I know I'm using specific phrasing, lol, but come on. Goaltender's easily the position you need to commit to most of any position. Yeah if they're shit you trade em but none of these guys have been shit. It's benefited nucks cuz goaltenders bring good return but at a certain point you have to think about a guy who isn't sure if he's gonna get traded the next day or not and how he'll perform.

Markstrom's an AHL goalie. He's done jack shit in the NHL.

As a fan there's nothing we can do about it but watch them get traded and cry about it

Yes and no. Teams play for audiences, audiences are made up of fans. GMs aren't making the best team possible, they're making the highest selling team possible - which often coincides but not always. Any GM who cares about a championship does so because his owners think champions make more money. Any good businessperson thinks 10 years into the future. So if you're gonna trade Lack, you have to think about how that affects Demko. Fans don't wanna suck 10 years from now. Owners don't wanna suck 10 years from now. So why should GMs waste the frame of thought of their previously thought franchise goaltender by trading another goalie for just a wee bit more?

Lack's value isn't that good, because Vancouver doesn't have leverage, because "you can't move Miller." So you're gonna take a small gain to keep an aging goalie while your best prospect has seen three amazing goaltenders traded in 3 years.

It's a different GM but you need to change the culture. And culture says Vancouver will drop a franchise goalie for a few picks right now.

If Demko's career is ruined because they traded a backup goalie who's playing under Ryan Miller with a 3 year contract he isn't going to make it regardless.

i have to agree with this.

i get what Dx is saying to a certain extent, but these guys have had pressure on them for a while now. their mindset shouldnt change based on what happens to what their possible future competition has done or had happen to him.

You're simplifying it. They traded two "sure thing" goalies, to commit to another "sure thing" goalie, and then signed a "sure thing" goalie, and called Demko a "sure thing" goalie. While wanting to trade the "sure thing" goalie, from who the fuck cares at this point because that phrase means nothing anymore.

Again, it's looking at the last 3 months vs the last 3 years. Canucks are showing they don't commit to goalies (if the rumor is true).

or, maybe they just like the ones they have coming up more, and their team benefits from trading lack or markstrom now.

most teams cant say theyve had the options that vancouver has had at goaltending over the last 5 years.

i dont think they should worry about hurting peoples feelings or possibly making an AHL goalie uncomfortable about being traded in the future. do what you gotta do to make your team better.

If anything I would think he viewed it optimistically. His development lines up pretty well with Miller's exit.
