also trading for a goalie means less tools for their rebuild they already gave up some prospects giving up more... its just not worth it for them imo
right now the goalie market is pretty dead not many teams need a goalie and if they do its a back up more then a starter
they could prob just wait n snag somebody from FA in the next few years wit how the goalie situations are or pick one up in the 2nd rd or something
Nobody said they're gonna trade for a middle-aged goalie. Niemi is a free-agent.
Goalies take longer to develop, I doubt they want to wait 4+ years for a goalie to make the NHL and then another 2 years for him to get enough NHL experience.
And trading for a goalie doesn't lose them any extra assets:
- Trade for a goalie / draft a skater
- Draft a goalie / keep a skater
Either way, they lose a draft pick, acquire a goalie and retain a skater.
